CULT OF SHIVA

  • Mangal means auspicious in Sanskrit. It is also one of the names of the Graha Mangal (Mars) amongst whose other names are Bhauma, Angaraka, Dharaputra. He is said to be son of Bhumi, earth and was born when Lord Shiva destroyed the demon Andhakasura. Andhakasura was granted the boon that another Andhakasura will arise from each drop of his blood that falls on earth, making him immortal in war. None could defeat him. All of his enemies went to Shiva, seeking his help in destroying Andhakasura. Lord Shiva fought with Andhakasura at Avanti, Ujjain. Lord Shiva wiped his brow and some sweat fell off the Lord's brow on the ground, giving birth to Mangal, which is why he is called Bhauma, the son of earth.

  •  The Lord then hurled his trident at the heart of Andhakasura and the blood that shot out of him was absorbed by Mangal, not allowing it to fall to earth and thus Andhakasura was killed in combat. A temple of Mangal known as Mangalanath temple exists in Ujjain where he is worshipped in form of Shiva. Mangal is neither gracious nor brutal, it's characterised according to ones horoscope. The God of Mangal is Hanuman ji. He is red coloured and presides over Tuesday. When Mangal does not get help from his father Sun, then it becomes brutal or when there is absence of friendly planets. The metal of Mangal is copper and moonga ~ red coral stone. Honey and sweets are favourite. Fast on Tuesday, worshipping Hanuman ji by offering Sindoor to him, using pure silver, assisting ones brother are some of the methods through which Mangal dosh can be overcome. Worshipping Hanuman ji is the best method of controlling the evil impact of Mangal!

  • Lord Shiva got the name Neelkantha, the blue-throated One, when He saved the whole mankind from distruction. In an episode when Lord Vishnu incarnated as KURMA, the Great Tortoise, Shiva stepped in to safeguard the earth from extinction. During the churning of the Ocean by the Demi-gods and Demons to acquire nectar, what came out of the ocean first was Halahala, fumes of poison that spread and threatened to destroy all life on earth. That is when Shiva intervened and drank the poison absorbing it within Him. Before the poison could go below the throat, Parvati put her hand on His throat and stilled the poison there. His throat then turned blue, and henceforth He was called Neelkantha.!! Jai Neelkantha

  • Shiva is Sat-Chit-Ananda, ever-existing, ever-conscious, ever-new Bliss. We, as soul, are individualized Sat-Chit-Ananda. "From Joy we have come, in Joy we live and have our being, and in that sacred Joy we will one day melt again! Shiva is Consciousness, Shiva is absolute Existence, Shiva is ever-new Joy. This Joy is omnipresent. Feel your oneness with that Joy. It resides within you; and it encompasses infinity. Beyond the gross vibratory boundaries of matter, the Immutable Infinite reigns in all His majesty and vastness.! Love, Light & Peace ~ Shivoham Shivoham!!

  •
  • Knowledge is of two kinds: knowledge of objects, and knowledge of the subjectivity. In other words Knowledge of the known, the knowable what we see around us and the second type is the knowledge of the knower. And a man can know millions and millions of things, he can become acquainted with the whole world, but if he is not aware of the knower he is ignorant. He may be knowledgeable, but he is not wise. He may have collected much information, much knowledge, but the basic thing which makes one a knower is lacking – he is not aware of himself " Vigyan bhairav tantra.
  • energy or shakti is dynamic it is always flowing. when you see an object or think of something it is your energy flowing towards that object. But there is always the observer the self, when the objects disappear and your shakti merges with your shiva at that moment is the discovery of the self. Be it hatha yoga or mantra yoga or nada yoga or insight meditation. Paths many goal the same. realization of the self. The pure unconditioned self.
